London AIM-listed gem miner DiamondCorp, now also JSE listed, strengthened its core management team with two senior appointments.

The company appointed Steve West as head of business development and Paul Sharples as head of mining. Both positions would be based at the company's Lace mine near Kroonstad in the Free State province of South Africa.

West and Sharples would be members of DiamondCorp's executive committee and report to CEO Paul Loudon.

"The appointments come ahead of the next phase of growth for DiamondCorp. Having successfully commissioned phase one at the Lace diamond mine, the company is now accelerating phase two development of the underground mine. At the same time, we are looking at a number of growth opportunities through joint ventures and acquisitions," Loudon said in a statement on Tuesday.

West, a mechanical engineer, joins DiamondCorp from Gem Diamonds, and Sharples, a charted mining engineer is currently GM of the Lace mine.
